Visit Nashville’s Centennial Park

Centennial Park

If you’re looking for a fun and active way to spend a day enjoying Nashville in the great outdoors, why not visit one of the area’s premier parks? Centennial Park is not just any park. Spanning 132 acres, it features Lake Watauga, the Centennial Art Center, historical monuments, the iconic Parthenon, a 1-mile walking trail, the Centennial Sportsplex, a sunken garden, a bandshell, sand volleyball courts, a dog park, and an exercise trail. Centennial Park plays host to a number of events and festivals throughout the year, and visitors come for the museum, the history, and the natural beauty of this special swath of land in the heart of Nashville.

Art, Activity, and “Singing Trees” at Nashville’s Centennial Park

Centennial Park is participating in a new initiative called “If Trees Could Sing.” Park visitors can use their smartphones to access videos of Nashville musicians talking and singing about trees and their benefits. Custom tree signs located throughout the park will lead visitors to the videos. This unique and engaging program takes a creative approach to educating park visitors about the importance of trees.

Another big draw, the Parthenon stands sentry as Centennial Park’s centerpiece. The building itself is a full-scale replica of its ancient Greek counterpart, as is the 42-foot statue of Athena, a focal point of the Parthenon. Nashville’s tribute to the Parthenon also serves as the art museum, with a permanent collection of 19th- and 20th-century American artists as well as spaces that showcase a variety of temporary shows and exhibits. The Parthenon is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission to the museum is free for members, $6 for adults, and $4 for children and seniors.

Located at 2500 West End Avenue in Nashville, Centennial Park is open daily from dawn to 11 p.m.
